PRIORITIZING THE POINTLESS AND NEGLECTING THE IMPERATIVE: SCIENCE AND CLIMATE POLICIES AT RISK IN BRAZIL

Resumo

Brazilian politicians are on a lively debate on backtracking to the printed voting system after 25yrs of the use of the electronic ballot box. Also in the highlights is the investigation about the omissions of the current government regarding the actions to counteract COVID-19. Meanwhile, Brazilians keep waiting for effective public policies to mitigate the pandemic damages in several areas, while watching a parade of military tanks in the administrative capital of the country. The National Council on Scientific and Technologic Development was under a breakdown, and all researchers lost access to the national scientific platform. Alongside, the country has been facing its worst environmental crisis, and actions to strive global warming have been continuously neglected by the president. In this scenario, the 6th Assessment Report of the Intragovernmental Panel on Climate Changes was launched, presenting the perspectives to confront such relevant and disregarded issue for Brazil and the world.
