There are so many ways for children to learn. One of the best ways for kids to learn about new things, ______ is through song. I know that with my own preschool aged child, singing is an integral part of his day. I hear him singing from the time he wakes up in the morning, until he goes to bed at night. So here are some songs that we enjoy singing together for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Songs About Turkeys
These first two songs are fun and catchy songs that focus on the main event of Thanksgiving, the turkey. The tune is upbeat and fun in each song and the words are simple and repetitive to help children remember them even beyond the initial teaching.

Hello Mr. Turkey
Hello Mr. Turkey how are you? (clap, clap)

Hello Mr. Turkey how are you? (clap, clap)

With a gobble, gobble, gobble

And a wobble, wobble, wobble

Hello Mr. Turkey how are you? (clap, clap)

Run Little Turkey
(Sung to the tune of Skip to My Lou)

Run little turkey, run away,

Run little turkey, run away,

You'll be dinner on Thanksgiving Day

So run, little turkey, run away.

Gobble, gobble, you can't catch me.

Gobble, gobble, you can't catch me.

I'll run away and I'll be free.

Gobble, gobble, you can't catch me!

Songs About Giving Thanks
These next two songs are perfect for reminding our young people that Thanksgiving is about acknowledging and appreciating all that we have. Gratitude is an important idea for children to become aware of and these songs are a great start.

Thank you, Thank you, This We Say
(Sung to the tune of Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star)

Thank you for the earth and sky,

Thank you for the the birds that fly.

Thank you for the food we grow.

Thank you for the streams that flow.

Thank you, thank you, this we say,

Thanks for all we have today.

On Thanksgiving Day
(Sung to the tune of Mary Had a Little Lamb)

Turkey is so good to eat,

Good to eat, good to eat.

Turkey is so good to eat,

On Thanksgiving Day.

Friends and family gather round,

Gather round, gather round.

Friends and family gather round,

On Thanksgiving Day.

For all these blessings, we give thanks,

We give thanks, we give thanks.

For all these blessings, we give thanks,

On Thanksgiving Day.

Songs About Native Americans
Although many people may feel that the following song is not politically correct, it is a fun song about Native Americans. And _____ of course we know that the pilgrims would not have made it without the help of the Native Americans.

Ten Little Indians
One little, two little, three little Indians,

Four little, _______ five little, six little Indians,

Seven little, eight little, nine little Indians,

Ten little Indian children.

They jumped in the boat, and the boat tipped over,

Jumped in the boat, and the boat tipped over,

Jumped in the boat, and the boat tipped over,

Ten little Indian children.

They swam and they swam and they swam to the shore,

Swam and they swam and they swam to the shore,

Swam and they swam and the swam to the shore,

Ten little Indian children.

They were cold and wet and they ran home to Mother,

Cold and wet and they ran home to Mother,

Cold and wet and they ran home to Mother,

Ten little Indian children.

She fed them and hugged them and put them to bed,

Fed them and hugged them and put them to bed,

Fed them and hugged them and put them to bed,

Ten little Indian children.

Sharing Thanksgiving Songs
Whether you are a teacher for young children or you are a parent of young children, these songs would be a great addition to share at any Thanksgiving feast! Happy Thanksgiving!
