The 54-year-old van driver has been taken to hospital with serious injuries, West Midlands Police said.

West Midlands Fire Service said crews had to free the man from the wreckage before he could be treated by paramedics.

There were long delays for commuters, with the southbound carriageway closed between Spaghetti Junction, and junction 5 for Castle Bromwich, Birmingham, until just before 9am to allow for investigation and clear-up.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and dash cam footage to help their inquiries.
