Abstract

The purpose of this essay was to verify the conditions of maturity and immaturity of teenagers who attend college between 17 and 23 years old regarding their professional choice according to Erik Erikson’s theory, and James Marcia’s studies. Method: 30 youngsters were submitted to the EMEP, HTP tests and answered an inquiry. According to the guidelines of the instrument manuals, a qualitative analysis of the inquiries was made and it was observed that 83.33% were mature and 16.66% were immature. The youngsters considered to be mature in the professional choice indicated having gone through a crisis phase, such as, doubts regarding career and course that they associated to the function that they would have in society. As for those considered immature for the professional choice, they presented a higher level of aggressiveness, were more turned to themselves and more confused. These features show an egocentric and more destructive adolescent .., Thus, it is understood that the identity is important in teenagers who are going through the phase of professional decision.
