Abstract

This article attempts to characterize the ideas which had a decisive influence on the intellectual formation of Farias Brito. These ideas are responsible for the way he interpreted the world in which he lived and include the transformations during his life time as well as their consequences, according to his opinions. Throughout the text we find the contributions of various philosophers, their ideas and the important lines of thoughts which provide the decisive support for his thoughts on the facts he witnessed and tried to analyze with his strong critical vision. Democracy, socialism, materialism, religion and morality are the matters he analyzed and discussed with competence. Society, the western cultures, as well as Brazil are present in his analysis from which emerges a deep judgment directed to glorify the power of the spirit in the objective appreciation of reality.
