Abstract

Fibromyalgia, also known as fibrosis, has been getting the attention of human society in the last years because this disease has been occurring with higher frequency mainly in women in menopause. Considering the impact of hormonal treatments, emotional stress, one can suggest that these alterations are indication of fibromyalgia. This disease manifests itself by the presence of localized pains in different parts of the body which appear spontaneously or after simple local compression. The most sensitive areas are the nexk, back, arms and thighs. The objective of this research is to verify the psychological characteristics in women with this disease. We have studied a group of eleven women, without considering their age groups, but which have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. A psychological profile of the members of the studied group was carried out by means of the Rorschach Method. The results show that 91% of the fibromyalgia patients have undertone a painful loss which may have triggered the appearance of the symptoms of the disease. In addition, 37% of the women have mentioned diffi culties in developing relationships with men.
