Abstract

This paper deals with the relationship between the geoenvironmental problems of the Bragança Paulista municipality and its urban spreading. The appearance of geologic risk areas in the municipality and the Lavapés Creek water qualities were analyzed and related to the city broadening. The municipality is masked by a disordered urban growth lifted by a spontaneous migration process, which was based in absence of more rigorous public policies to shelter preservation areas, like stream, creek and riverside margins against irregular occupations. Nevertheless Bragança Paulista does not exhibit an alarming situation concerning to the environmental quality, it is necessary that the brigantine population and the local public authority have a conscience on the Lavapés Creek pollution and appearance of new risk areas. These problems can assume uncontrollable dimensions, if there is not more efficient work turned to the fulfillment of the force law, as well as the own Municipality Management Plan, that deals widely with the municipality environmental questions.
