Abstract

The objective of this study is to present the results concerning the application of morphostructural analyses to the Rio do Peixe Basin, as a support to neotectonic and morphogenetic studies of the São Paulo State Western Platteau, São Paulo, Brazil. This analysis was based on geological, stratigraphical, geomorphological and structural data available in the scientific literature. The results show that the study area can be divided into four morphostructural compartments in which recent structural deformations can observed in at least two of them. Neotectonical processes can also be verified by the seismic history of the region as well as by the liquefaction structures, which are indicative of seismic events of great magnitude which were synchronous to the development of neopleistocene alluvial plains in the Rio do Peixe Basin.
