Abstract

Geological, physical and mechanical studies of (amêndoas Marrom Montês, Vermelho Anelar e Vermelho) porfirytic rocks from São Francisco Granite Complex were carried out aiming to enlarge the offer to the consumer market of a new esthetic variety of reddish rocks to be used as dimension stones and covering materials. Their technological characterization make possible to increase the technical solutions and guidance to their correct application to prevent architectural and constructive problems due to deterioration process. The obtained parameters are close to and sometimes higher than the reference average values, pointing to the satisfactory granite application in covering both internal and external applications. Future work will be necessary to research the mining volume of each identified esthetic pattern or even other facies that were not selected in this first study.
