Geomorphologial control on distribution of the riparian vegetation of the Paraná River, Brazil: Part I – Floodpalin geomorphological units

Abstract

Four geomorphological units in the floodplain and two in the Mutum Island were mapped in a reach of the Paraná River near Porto Rico’s (PR): Natural levee, runoff, crevasse splay and plain (high, middle and lower) were the geomorphological units mapped in the floodplain. That found in the Mutum Island were: paleochannel and crest. Based in three detailed topographic cross-sections it was possible to analyze the distribution of riparian vegetation along the geomorphological units.
