Abstract

The use of morphometric analysis can give important informations on regional tectonism once river follows to a rapid adjustment to crustal deformation, at least with subtle modification of the thalweg. The present paper presents an application of the longitudinal profile analysis to the main streams of the Santo Anastácio River Basin and indicates areas with possible tectonic influences. Twenty-six drainage profile longer than 8 km were analyzed in log scale for best fit curve and its comparison with normal arithmetic-scale profile. The threshold of 10 m was used for detection of positive (uplifiting areas) or negative (depressed areas) anomalies. It was also possible to identify fault, based in the thalweg line changes, zones with significant vertical slip. A map is presented with the Santo Anastácio River Basin drainage net with evidence of anomalous reaches. A comparison of the results with field evidences of geologial and geomorphological features lets foresee a definition of a complete regional neotectonic framework.
