Abstract

Sacredness is a fact which has interested many scholars, especially from the middle of the 19th century on, because of its influence on human life. Otto, Eliade, Caillois and Langer search for, each one of them according to their way of thought, clarifying the meaning of sacredness. These analyses led us to two conclusions: first, that sacredness transcends the religious scope; second, that to experience it is connected to education. This second conclusion leads us to study the presence of sacredness in the educational proposal presented in the book .Educação como prática da liberdade., by Paulo Freire. Everything leads us to the conclusion that a proper experience of sacredness depends on a proper educational process.
