RESEARCH OF TOTAL AND FECAL COLIFORMIS IN DRINKING FOUNTAINS LOCATED AT EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTION OF THE GUARULHOS CITY.

Quality of drinking water is important to the maintenance of life and health of all organisms, and it should be free of contamination by chemicals, radioactive agents and microorganisms. The objective of this study was to evaluate the presence of total and fecal coliformis of the water consumed in drinking fountains located at Educational Institution of Guarulhos city. Three drinking fountains (A, B and C) located in different regions of the institution were selected to the analysis. Initially samples of external portion of drinking fountais were collected with a swab to evaluated the presence of bacteria belonged to the family Enterobacteriaceae. Subsequently, samples of water were collected and it analyzed for total and fecal coliforms. It was detected the presence of Citrobacter freundii and Klebsiella oxytoca in the samples of drinking fountains A, B and C. It was not observed the presence of heterotrophic species. Taken together, these results demonstrated unsatisfactory hygienic conditions of the drinking fountains located at Educational Institution in Guarulhos city and some changes of the Institution’ direction were provide to improve hygienic conditions of water and drinking fountains.Additional Files
