Diverse studies demonstrate deleterious effect of high oxidative substances, the bleaching systems, on dental hard tissues, however, few studies show their effect on the restorative materials, that some times do not need be replaced after bleaching treatment. Thus, this work relates the main effect of peroxides used for the dental bleaching on the restorative materials. In the amalgam, the mercury release can occur and reducing its physical properties. In ceramic glass ionomers alterations in the chemical composition are observed, these alterations can increase degradation, being more severe in conventional glass ionomers. The composite resins seem not to degrade in contact with peroxides, however their replacement must be evaluated with caution for the risk discoloration increase. Although all the restorative materials be affected by bleaching systems the contact with the gel may not be considered as a priority factor to indicate the restoration replacement, however the integrity of the restorations must be evaluated by the dentist in a higher frequency.Published
