Abstract

This article approaches the development, the economic progress and the social prosperity in organizations concearning the Third Sector, and it analyses the application of the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) in these institutions. The balanced Scorecard has emerged from a study of various companies, intitled as “Measuring Performance in the Organization of the Future”, motivated by the beliefs that the existing methods for the evaluation of a company’s performnance, generally supported by accounting and financial indicators, were becoming obsolete. Besides preserving financial and non-financial measures, the BSC also has an understanding that only these measures are not enough to orient and evaluate the course that the companies have to follow for the future value generation, as investing in clients, suppliers, employees, processes, technology and innovation. The aim of this paper is to analyse the BBC applied to Third Sector organizations, considering that the financial measures are supplemented by vector-measures impulsioning future performances. According to Kaplan (1997), the objectives and measures are derived from the strategic vision of the company which focus the professional and organizational performances through four perspectives: financial, market, internal processes and learning and increasing. These four perspectives are joined together by a cause/effect relationship. These indicators seek to measure the so-called “intangible-actives” from the organization (client’s satisfaction, employee’s motivation, quality of internal processes, etc.), considered today as the major competitive advantage toward the front of rivals. The case study and the methodological basis were constituted by bibliographical as well as national and international periodical researches. After the bibliographical review, once the research concearns a case study, an empirical investigation of the contemporary phenomenon inside the context of real life was also researched.
